LBA - Sigma 24mm Super-Wide II f/2.8 Macro

I just picked up a used Sigma 24mm Super-Wide II f/2.8 Macro for $70 Cdn. It seems as though Sigma had long names back then too Looks to be in very good condition, some distance scale numbers have worn off but I rarely look at those anyway. I'll take some images later inside or outside if it stops raining.

Here it is on my K100D Super. In terms of size, its about the same as the FA 50, not a huge difference.

I have the AF version of that lens, and it is great. Nice images, sturdy build. One of my favourites. 35mm-equivalent is a great length for everyday use.

Macro, just for fun...

I like macros and generally don't do them. Just trying out the Sigma 24mm inside and the macro, too me, is not that bad. Full size crop of a AAA battery. Approx. 6-7 inches away.

I have this lens, one of my first eBay purchases. I like it a lot. I used it on my film camera once, where my idea of "wide" was 35mm, and was very impressed with the 24mm FOV. I have taken it out several times on digital as my only lens (extremely rare for me). I would prefer better non-worn markings on a wide-angle prime, so hyperfocal focusing is easier, but it's not a big deal. It has a good reputation and I've found it's sharp enough even wide open.

Nice lens, but highly vulnerable to flare - use a good lens hood!

I hade one of these, and liked it a lot. Only sold it because I acquired a Kiron 24mm f/2.

The Sigma's close-focusing capabilities were one of the things that, to me, put it ahead of the SMC-A 24mm f/2.8. But just a note, although it says macro on the lens, the closest it gets is 1:4 IIRC, while the term macro is usually reserved for 1:2 or better.

Yeah, what he said... Flare is the one weakness of this lens, but it's a great one otherwise. I used to leave this lens on my camera all the time, till it was replaced by the DA* 16-50. It's not a true macro, but does focus close and has very nice bokeh IMO. Good price... nice find.
