Tamron SP 500mm f8, 55BB

was just wondering if anyone had a set of instructions for this lens, I only ask because of the red top screw on the mount, whats it for?

No idea, but on my copy it isn't painted red.

Iwouldn't mess with it though. May have been just a stop for the (removed) tripod mount.

Mine's orange. I wouldn't tamper with it either - looks like an important support screw for the adaptall mount.

Nice lens, though.

I have this lens (I'm quite a Tamron Adaptall fan as some of you will have already noted). I believe the red screw may be to set the aperture lever to a fixed f8 position on the mount.

so since I have pentax, I should leave the 2 green dots aligned?

also with the KM mount whats the number band on the mount for? is that to show what the aperture is set at? when I mount it to the Tamron 500 .4 is lined up with the green dot...

complete noob.....

As you see from the photo, the red dot is aligned with the f/8 aperture setting on the adapter.

Picasa Web Albums - Mike the Strike - Tamron SP-500

I assume that in cameras that use the mechanical linkage that the red screw could be used to adjust the aperture setting. In Pentax digital cameras, the mechanical linkage isn't used, so the position of the red screw probably doesn't affect anything.

well that makes sense to me, my adapter is also aligned with the f/8 aperture setting
