I am new to SDM...

Finally my DA* 55mm f:1.4 SDM arrived.
The first thing I noticed was the noise when the motor starts and stops. It sounds like "Plick". Loud enough to hear it on the street. So every AF I can hear "Plick....Plick". The AF is correct and the speed also. Sometimes it needs three tentatives before locking (mostly in low light).

I thought the S from SDM was Silent

"Silent" only if compared to the old turn-screw-drive. On the other hand I find the noise of the 16-50 hardly noticeable - it really lives up to the SDM designation.

I think "SDM" stands for "Slow Drive Mechanism"

LOL

'LOL' by itself is too short, so I had to add this sentence.

Officially, the "S" stands for Supersonic -- which is kind of silly because I'd think a supersonic lens would be very fast but very noisy!

i'd quite fancy a large boom every time i focus. Thatd make the other pros pay a bit more attention, if not run for the wind.
Earplugs in lads!
