Many Pentaxians have LBA, if not most (or even all), and because of that we all have one lens or the other in mind to buy, sell, trade or keep.

I try and make my lineup "functionally" complete, although there are some purely LBA lenses in there, I admit. I also have plans for lenses that either are not out yet, or I simply don't have the money to buy them, yet.

Here's my personal lens roadmap:

Zooms:
Pentax 10-17mm f/3.5-5.6 Fisheye (to buy -- optional, depends on certain projects)
Pentax DA*16-50mm f/2.8 (to buy ASAP)
Pentax DA*50-135mm f/2.8 (to buy later in 2007)
Sigma EX DG 70-200mm f/2.8 (have -- no intention of ever selling this baby despite FL overlaps)

Primes:
Pentax DA14mm f/2.8 (to buy soon)
Pentax FA31mm f/1.8 Limited (have)
Pentax FA50mm f/1.4 (have -- might sell)
Pentax DFA50mm f/2.8 1:1 Macro (have)
Voigtlander 75mm f/2.5 SL (have)
Pentax FA77mm f/1.8 Limited (have)
Pentax DA*200mm f/2.8 (to buy when released)
Pentax FA*/DA*300mm f/2.8 (to buy -- don't know when, indefinite time-frame)

I tend to keep my zoom and prime lines independent of each other, for instance if I have a 16-50/2.8, I'll try and match it with DA14+FA31+FA50 on the prime side, costly I know, but who said photography was cheap. Right now though, my zoom range is severely lacking on the wider end of things, which was covered up until a few days ago by my faithful DA16-45, which I sold to a fellow forum member in anticipation of the DA16-50.

Stock photo, portraits, fashion shoots etc are done with primes.

Weddings, events, other places where I have no time to change lenses are covered by the zooms.

The good thing is, it's not a mere hobby now, so all that expensive glass is justified in my mind. If it was purely a hobby, I don't think I'd have a single zoom.

What lenses are floating around in your head? I'd like to hear.

As Need has absolutely nothing to do with why I purchase Lens, here is my want list.

DA 12-24

FA 100mm F/2.8 Macro

A 300mm Prime of some sort.

Otherwise, I'm good.

Just started with Pentax four months ago (from Canon), so I've been buying quick to have a complete kit.

Currently have DA21, DA40, DA50-200, and FA50 acquired in that order. Next will probably be the Tamron 90 macro... and I really want the DA70 to complete the set, but it will probably have to wait.

The FA 50 would be the first to go (I think the 40 is a better lens unless you need to go below 2.8, obviously). The 21/40/50-200 combo has made a very nice (and lightweight) 'kit' so far, and I'm still glad I jumped from Canon (kit-lens/35f2.0/50f1.8/Tamron 80-200).

DA50-135mm (in the nearer future than the 31mm but not sure when... I've noticed in weddings I don't really use a longer focal length than 70-80mm, so I can't justify it yet as I'm not making any money yet as a wedding photographer)
DA50-200mm
Sigma 135-400mm (I was thinking of getting this instead of the Tokina but now I'm thinking that I don't really need that focal length, so unless I go on a Safari I don't think I'll be replacing it. I used the 50-200mm today and it was great. I guess eventually I'll upgrade it to the 55-300 which will be lighter than the Sigma and stopped down probably at least as good and cheaper. Size DOES matter)

Now all I need to do is sell a few lenses (Tokina 80-400mm, Sigma 17-70mm and FA50mm. Ebay here I come!) and book a couple of gigs to make some $$ for the lenses I'm missing. Just finished my website Home

Yeah, I know. I think big, both in size and in money. I probably need something in the range between the Zenitar and the 50mm, but I usually just use the Zenitar and crop, or use the 50 and stitch.

My LBA is in relapse - at least for now. I never carry over three lenses (mimize weight for an old geezer - maximize simplicity for a dummy), so I divide my lenses into kits:

1) General Use Kit - DA16-45, DA 50-200 and FA 35/2; depending upon circumstances I substitute my DA 10-17 or - now - DFA 100 for the 35.

2) Travel light kit - DA 21, DA 40 and DA 70; these make a pretty svelt package, even with a K10D. I generally use this kit when traveling (perhaps with DS2 instead of K10D) or when I know I'm going to lug the bag around all day (a boat show is a good - very good - example).

3) Special purpose legacy lenses - K28/2, FA 50/1.4, A* 85/1.4 and K 300/4.

Of course I can mix and match to suit the situation, but I never carry more than three.

I've got no immediate "fever" for anything else. The DA* lenses don't attract me owing to their mass (I can always change my mind). I think the FA 35/2 is wonderful, but I suppose it's possible that I could replace it with the upcoming DA 35 if it if the new lens offers something to intice me to do so.

What I'd like to see is a small DA 90/2.8ish Limited with a little more reach than the 70; with my DA 21, DA 40 this would more-or-less mimic the classic 28, 50ish and 135 that some many people used back in the day.

it's not the money, it is more "will I really shoot this wide often" and I kind of cannot convince me that I will, I tend to be happy lately at 28mm with this 1.5crop format, and I did not need 28mm eq FOV cover since last October at least...

so... thinking over, like the idea of the fisheye, but but but... decisions decisions, will probably skip it, and leave it to the future to decide, waiting for that "I wish I had more FOV" moment to give me a proper excuse to go and get it.

other than that, well I think I got all the lenses that I need, and most of the ones that I wanted, so OK for now... better save some money for Bigma

Oh you WILL use it. It's addictive. You can use it for much more than wide angle shots. I use it for nice closeups where you want more in the frame than can be achieved with a longer lens, extreme closeups with distortion for fun shots, and have even used it for macro work with the Vivitar 2XMTFC. It's well worth the price!

Nope! You're not the only one. When I first got my DS I got the kit lens, a Sigma 28-80mm, and a Sigma 70-300mm to find out what lengths I shot the most. Then I got those lenses.

You're right, I do need something in there...
