I currently have a fairly small kit:

M50/1.7 - typically used on the end of my extension tubes
F50/1.7 - my favorite lens to use (that I own)
DA18-55 - what's on the camera most often
DA50-200

Things I'd like that are semi-realistic:

Wide - DA12-24
Fishy wide - Zenitar 16
Upgrade walkaround - DA17-70 or Sigma 17-70
Some wide prime - 20, 24 or so - even a manual one would be good.
Better "normal" - FA28 or FA35 - would like to see a fast 28, f/2 or better.
Sorta long - ~90mm replacement for the 135 of old - relatively fast
Longer - 70-300 or 100-300, maybe a 300mm prime
Really long - someday I'd like something 400mm+ but thats down the road
Multiplier - some TC to help on the long end.

Things I'd like that are more gravy or too expensive to be realistic:

Any of the limited lenses - 21, 31, 40, 43, 70, 77
Any of the * lenses - DA* or FA*, or even M* for that matter.

My turn...

The ones I use most frequently:

DA 16-45/4
DA 50-200/4,5-5,6
FA 31/1.8 Limited
Tamron 90/2,8 Di
Tamron 1.4x AF TC

Then, I also have:

SMC-K 135/2.5
SMC-M 135/3.5
SMC-K 55/1.8
SMC-K 50/1.4
SMC-M 50/4 Macro
SMC-M 35/2
SMC-M 28/2.8
SMC-M 28/3.5

I am planning to get:

FA 43/1.9 Limited
FA 77/1.8 Limited
SMC-A 300/4 (or an F, FA if the price is OK; the DA* will be out of my reach probably )

I haven't decided which to get among these:

DA 14/2.8
DA 12-24/4
DA 10-17/3.5-4.5

These affect my decision making:

- too much overlap between 12-24 and the 16-45
- not much FOV difference between 16 and 14
- 10-17 is fisheye, defishing it harms edge/corner resolution/sharpness

Currently, I tend to get 12-24 and sell the 16-45. Well, I don't know yet for sure, and I am not in a hurry either...

I think this should be funny:
The DA 18-55 is mostly on my mind , followed by the DA 16-45 and Sigma 17-70. I always wanted more wide (tired of the "normal" 50 mm on film), but I seem to be cursed.
Also on my mind are the SMC 24 and 28 mm manual primes.

A zoom that is only in my mind is the DA 14-40 mm f5.6-2.8 (yeah, quite the opposite) !

My 3 lenses start from that cursed 50 mm: M 50 f1.4, M 50 f2, DA 50-200 mm.

I should also introduce myself, this is my first post,

I am Marian.

Just started with Pentax four months ago (from Canon), so I've been buying quick to have a complete kit.

Currently have DA21, DA40, DA50-200, and FA50 acquired in that order. Next will probably be the Tamron 90 macro... and I really want the DA70 to complete the set, but it will probably have to wait.

The FA 50 would be the first to go (I think the 40 is a better lens unless you need to go below 2.8, obviously). The 21/40/50-200 combo has made a very nice (and lightweight) 'kit' so far, and I'm still glad I jumped from Canon (kit-lens/35f2.0/50f1.8/Tamron 80-200).
I switched over from Canon as well, but you're way faster at buying lenses than I was. For the first few months all I had was an FA50/1.4 and the kit lens with my DS.

Cheers,

My ultimate (eventual) kit:
Primes:
DA21mm
FA31mm (would LOVE to have this lens but it's definetley not in any future plans)
DA40mm
DA70mm

Zooms:
DA10-17mm
DA16-50mm (in the near future, probably June-ish, will be good for my up and coming wedding business )

<--cut-->

Now all I need to do is sell a few lenses (Tokina 80-400mm, Sigma 17-70mm and FA50mm. Ebay here I come!) and book a couple of gigs to make some $$ for the lenses I'm missing. Just finished my website Home
Yep, the 16-50/2.8 I need for similar reasons.

Also need to get me some gigs as well, so much glass to buy... oh and a second K10D body, major drain on the bank.

Cheers

Who said you had snapped out of it?

So long as there's more on your mind to buy, you're firmly infected.

Hi Asad!

I'm a minimalist when it comes to my kit. What I have is:
Zenitar 16mm f2.8
Pentax FA50mm f1.4
Pentax FA77mm f1.8
Pentax DFA100mm macro f2.8
Pentax M200mm f4
Pentax A*300mm f4
Vivitar 2XMFTC

If I didn't have to deal with the guilt of spending that much money and the multiplication of that guilt by photo_dad's whining about how he couldn't spend that much on his planes:

Pentax DFA*50-135
Sigma 50-500mm or Sigma 170-500mm

Pentax FA600mm

Yeah, I know. I think big, both in size and in money. I probably need something in the range between the Zenitar and the 50mm, but I usually just use the Zenitar and crop, or use the 50 and stitch.

Ah, the life of a frustrated Pentax LBA sufferer!
Hi Tracy!

"Minimalist" says the lady with glass like the 77. You are missing a 31 between the Zenitar and the 50, better get photo_dad mentally prepared for it.

Aah, what I wouldn't do for a FA*600/4.

Whatever it may be, the life of a Pentax LBA sufferer is never boring.

Cheers!

[QUOTE=FotoPete;43855]An uncrippled KAF mount dslr aside...

FA* 300mm f2.8

^^^^^^^^
DREAM ON
=========
/QUOTE]

An un-crippled KAF mount DSLR would be really cool, maybe Pentax will put one of those in a higher spec body than the K10D... of course it's highly doubtful, but nothing wrong with dreaming.

Oh, and I want the FA*300mm f/2.8 so bad it hurts.

Cheers!

This would be my perfect lens for weddings, events etc. without the need for changing lenses.
In that case, make it a 16-200/2.8.

I think I am over my LBA.. I've sold more than I have bought of late..
Nice rounded kit you got there, Joele. Wish that's all I needed, but then again... knowing myself, there's no such thing as enough lenses.

Ahoy Asad,

It's a quite nice thread you have started here. A lot of food for thoughts and reflections. It seems to me as many have a lot of lenses that I, short of imagination, don't understand when they see any use. I have always been a bit narrowminded

What I need is a semi-fish, a normal and a short tele:

For the DS I have the Zenitar, sold the FA35 and the A50/1.2, waiting for the DA35/x and the DA*55/1.4

For the 5D I have a Summilux 50/1.4, a Zuiko 24/2.8 and would like to buy a Zenitar. I also have an EF85/1.8 that I seldom use. All together this make one camera system too much and in both cases a wrong setup of lenses. That's only for the moment though.

To all this we can add a bunch of lenses that I really should get rid of. I need to unload the cupboard as well as my mind.

I use the 5D the most of the time, but I have some problems waving goodbye to the Pentax stuff.
You seem to be in complete transition mode these days... I'm semi-transition, almost done.

Why the Zuiko? Is it that good?

Cheers!

The lenses to buy: Da* 200 and Da* 300 + Da* 16-50 + Da 35 + Da 55

I am saving for the future Da* 600 (hopefully)
Yeah, the DA*600, wonder what Pentax has in mind for the really big guns...

Cheers,
-Asad
