He did mention that it's really subjective, though. The list being a "hall of fame" of sorts. I would take the ranking with a large grain of salt. Although I'm surprised the 16-45 is rated so high. Maybe I should really upgrade the kit lens to that after all.

Oh and it's a really old list too... People's perception of the DA* probably have changed since. And where's this 15-35 tamron? I have never seen in discussed in the forums...

The original list is from 2007, but it was referenced in a recent thread and with a few exceptions it seemed "acceptable" to the forum,

Heres my ranking, of the ones I own or have owned:

1. Pentax DA* 50-135 f2.8
2. Pentax 12-24 F4
3. Pentax DA*16-50 f2.8
4. Tamron 70-200 2.8
5. Tamron 28-75 F2.8

All of the above are excellent. Other zooms I've owned fall into a lower category, the ranking of which doesn't interest me

Must be the 17-35mm.

I'm sure that everyone here would come up with a different list, but I'll be sure to reference this one when I sell my 28-75!

Taking the ratings with a grain of salt is highly recommended here--to say the least. If you look at the ratings, as they materialize on page one of the thread Best zoomlenses (in production) for Pentax mount [Page 1]: Pentax SLR Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review you'll see the Tamron 70-300 4-5.6 LD Macro ranked high, without even a mention given to the 17-50--clearly silly. I shoot both of these lenses on the K20.
