sold for $600.00!! SMC Pentax FA* 24mm f/2

I know this is a great lens, but seriously? We're all in trouble now, any of the good Pentax glass that is from earlier generations is just going out of control!

Is this lens that good, that it would beg around the price of a FA 31mm f/1.8 ltd?

Ebay link- auction is ended, of course.

Saw that too; happy to see where it ended up, of course...

That's the problem, I've read just as many "hate it" as "love it" opinions. It has to be one of those lenses you need to try for yourself.

I think the price is so high because there's nothing else close to its specs. The current catalog goes from 21mm f3.2 to 31mm f1.8 (at a hefty price). There doesn't apear to be a lens in the future that's going to be much closer.

I agree--there's definitely a hole between 21 and 31. I saw that Pentax took their proposed DA* 30 off their roadmap--perhaps a DA*24 would be a better complement to the current line-up

And legacyb4--I told my wife that I should have invested in FA* lenses instead of buying RRSP's last year! I'd be ahead!

Unfortunately I don't know the community here as well as I should- just curious who wound up with the lens? Is it an esteemed member of the Pentax forums?

As much as I'd love to own this one, I'd never,, NEVER give that much money for it. It's just insane.

Don't know if you'd consider it a high return on investment; I bought mine back in the mid-90's when it was still available in the retail channel. Honestly, I don't remember how much I paid in Japanese yen at the point I was living in Tokyo...

It is a very good lens.
$600 is a bit on the high side, but $500 is about the normal price.

It is a typical available-light lens developed for film.
It lacks a bit of corner sharpness fully open, but has good contrast.
Built is excelent, full metal, aperture ring, internal focussing.
Comparatively small.

The only comparable lens available today is the Sigma 24/1.8, which is also good, but much larger.

I like the FA24 and use it often indoors.

Not the FA*24, but I sold my FA*200mm for $1150 USD last week and let me just say it was worth EVERY penny of it. Incredible optics and useable in both film and digital formats (to say nothing of their rarity) means all FA* lenses will command premium prices.

Interesting to see that. The pricing waxes and wane with Fa line. I am actually making a huge profit for an under rated Olympus lens 11-22mm f2.8-3.5 that is just totally unexpected on ebay.

Fa* 24mm is something I tried to use again and again. I had to part the lens because of its colour accuracy and performance with flare.
