I have one, and it's very sharp, no question. Also a good telephoto lens.

OK, I'm fairly much a newbie and sometime I can't see the forest for the trees.

I'm not quite sure I understand the difference in the following spec.

Minimum focusing distance: - 11.93 inches (0.303m)

Working distance: - 5.12 inches (0.130m)

I'm pretty comfortable with "minimum focusing distance" but not quite sure what "working distance" implies/means.

I want a good portrait type lens and macro interests me so, I think in the not too distant future, this may be a good lens for me.

But........??????

but from time to time for someting more interesting
Pentax *ist DS ,Pentax smc P-FA 100mm f/2.8 Macro
+TC1.4 1/60s f/6.7 at 100.0mm iso400

It is sharp, it is very contrast, beautiful colors and extremly good bokeh. use it with Sigma TC1.4 and TC2 and Pentax AF1.7X and some tubes:

I personally think Tamron would be sharper wide open comparing to D FA 100 macro but the contrast is definitely stronger with D FA

MFD = closest in-focus distance from the plane of the sensor or film to the subject/object

MWD = closest in-focus distance from the front element of the lens to the subject/object

For example, myy FA* 200/4 is MFD: 20 inches, and MWD = 11 inches

Thanks Marc,

That's kind of what I thought but wasn't sure.
