Impact of new Sigma 10-22 on prices of old 10-20

Does anyone have experience with this type of situation? It seems likely that the release of the new Sigma 10-20mm would reduce the price of the existing lens.

The new lens looks interesting, but with 82mm filter size, I don't think I can afford the filters, regardless of the lens price ;{

I think Sigma will keep the price of the old lens the same to justify the high price of the new one... but only time will tell.

Doubt it will much for the reasons you mention....the new 10-20 doesn't offer much to current owners because they usually use it at f/8-13 and the filter thread will discourage the upgrade even more. I don't have any plans to upgrade unless it's much sharper at the edges than the current one, which is sharp enough by the time you get to f/8-13 that you need for landscape photos anyways.
No point in having HSM doing landscapes either.

I guess the fact that I am not interested in the new lens is indicative that others will have the same attitude.

It seems like in general that older lenses go down in a price as better alternatives come along. The Tamron 18-250 was $495 or so in late 2007 and now can be had for about $350 to $400.

I have the 10-20 and like it very much, but don't see enough benefits in the new model to cause me to upgrade. For new pentax owners, i can see them evaluating the 10-20 for its increased speed. But the older lens was lighter weight and popular, so although there will be some reduction in price, i doubt that there will be any need for them to have a fire sale on the older model. It just isn't that bad and has a lot of fans in many camera systems.

A lot of people waited many months for the Tamron 10-24 and the consensus now seems to be its quality didn't justify the wait. I'm glad i didn't wait when i bought my 10-20.

The new review of the (old) Sigma 10-20 on dpreview.com suggests the Tamron is a better lens.

which puzzles me as well. The review specifically mentions center sharpness.
Other folks who have had both said they couldn't get a sharp copy of the 10-24...

It all speaks to the quality control issues with lens production. It seems that this problem plagues all manufacturers. It's great having a DSLR that has much higher quality than 35mm, but the impact is that the quality of the lenses is even more critical. The limiting factor with the current range of DSLRs is the glass.

It feels like it is more important to be lucky and get a good sample than it is to do the research and find the best lens ;{
