Promaster 28-105 f/4-5.6 (Tamron/Pentax rebadge)

I just picked one of these up for $55 on eBay, to complement my new ZX-5n. I know there's been at least one thread where this lens was discussed (the off-brand lens club thread, iirc), and it was stated that this is in all likelihood the same lens as both the Tamron AND Pentax FA 28-105s.

Anyone have personal experience with any of these three lenses, and if so, what can I expect?

I've had the "Pentax" version of it in black.

Good colors and contrast, quick AF in good light. Slow glass, some lens creep, but not bad at all in my experience, nice inexpensive walk around lens.

Anyone else feel like weighing in?

I've had several copies with the Promaster badge... As Duh_Vinci says, a good walkabout piece. Really not a lot to say about it, but that's not a bad thing. There's not a lot to dislike about the lens. However, it does have a slow aperture, softness on the long end and there's no "macro" mode.

Good IQ for a consumer zoom and quite a bit more reach than the kit lens.

I saw one of these second-hand on Ebay and got it for $US 51 based on the above assumption and the favorable reviews in the database here for the Tamron and Pentax ones. The assumption gained further credence as I got an original, second hand (again, from Ebay) Tamron 1D3FH lens hood which fits the Promaster perfectly :-)

[This is an old thread, but I thought this piece about the lens hood would be in context here ...]
