500mm f 4.5 (Takumar)

Hi All,
I just got my Takumar 500mm f 4.5 monster. (eBay)
In one of my books there is a one sentence refererence about taking the lens apart and mounting the camera to the back half, then re-assembling the lens.
In the "manuals" I have been able to find, no reference.
Does anyone have a manual specific to this lens? Can anyone give me a little more detail about this procedure, AND, is it really necessary.
I will be posting my auto focus 400mm f 5.6 FA on eBay soon to pay for this monster--stay tuned.
Thanks for any help.
Jack

I am not quite sure, what should be disassembled. What you can do, is to unmount the last (near camera) part of the the tube to screw a 52mm filter inside (there is a holder in this last tube). That works, but I personally would recommend to not use this feature, as Pentax in its wisdom "forgot" to place some kind of stop there and re-assembling is tedious, because the rear tube will either be rotated to some angle, you wouldn't which your camera to be mounted, or it will not be locked down securely. I corresponded with others about this topic and they all had made the same poor experience with the rear tube. So, don't remove it...

You can get the manual here:

The removable mount was a special feature. It allows easier mount on a screwmount camera.

That makes sense. I only know th K-mount version and there removing the tube has no other use, but to mount the filter. Ofcourse you could also replace the rear-tube with a tube and mount for the Pentax 6x7. But thisd part is expensive and rare...

Thanks FB.
I had been to the second link you posted. I could not get into the first link.
Thanks for trying.
This must have been quite a lens. I know one professional wildlife photographer who uses one on his nikon body. Until recently I thought he made his own adapter, but now I read that adapters were made for Ca**n, Ni**n, and other brands.
Can't wait to get it out to see what it can do.
