Hi Ben,
The only disagreement I have is the word brutally. Why not use beautifully or marvelously?

Just a note on the side.....
No..I think I will stay with brutally sharp. Here a 100 percent crop and shot with the K10D at the time.

Full 100 percent cropped image here:

Any more opinions. If this is not correct then what do i do about it?
I too think you have BF.

I own the FA 2.0/35, the DA 2.8/40 and F 1.7/50. They are all very sharp.
The DA 40 I often use when I know will meet photographers with other systems ...
... they have nothing like that.

Indoor I only use the 35 and/or 50 mm, because of the 2.8 of the DA40

Thanks for the opinions guys. It is much appreciated.

Can you please give me some more advice though.

1. Is this a 'bad' lens or a bad AF function of my camera?
2. Do i adjust the focus on my k100d (it can be done)?
3. Do i send the Lens back?

I can get my hands on another k100d body.... so i can test the bodies against each other. But my real question is: is this just a bad copy of the lens?

I will try more test though as Marc suggested. (thanks Marc).

I agree that what you are seeing is definitely a matter of the f/2.8 shots being out of focus, but I certainly would not be leaping to any conclusions that there is a malfunction here. You need to repeat your test using a setup in which the camera cannot possibly choose any focus point other than the intended one (do that by choosing a larger target, or by shooting from a shorter distance).
....snip.
As much as I'd like to agree on this, I can't. It is possible that camera have chosen the pipe insted of the card, but the basket/cookbook seem pretty much unmissable...

If possible get your hands on another body and another lens (fast-ish if possible - meaning at least f2.8) and cross test them.

seeesh... i hope it is the body. I can adjust that easily. I will follow this test:

Focus Testing - photo.net

If it turns out to be the lens, do i ask for an exchange or wil they try to repair it? I only baught it two days ago.

I'm not too sure how easy it is to adjust AF on K100D...
good luck

Brutally sharp

I have to agree. The lens can be "brutally sharp" at times

Problem is, I now have the FA 50 1.4, the DA 35, and the DA 40.

Deadwolfbones, I fail to see the problem! (So you've got a fine-tuned kit of primes, each able to handle particular tasks better than others. I should have such a problem.)

I agree it seems more likely on the surface, but the only way to know for sure is to do the test. At this point, do we even know if the center focus point was selected?

I started a new thread on the backfocusing issue. Please be kind enough to have a read.

Marc, centre point was on the card. I did hours and hours more testing with the same poor results
