You should post test photos of the lens as well as the lens itself next to another lens for size comparison. I would think of the oddness in a zoom with its short zoom range. But you never know, when a lens is good in achieving outstanding IQ and sharpness, anything is very much wanted and desired in the LBA landscape. Fast and good quality glass are heavy and I am with you in not staying away from heavy glass.

Does the lens come with a lens hood? Is your lens hood original? It is kind of odd that the filter is mounted on hood instead of your lens. A picture will clarify this better.

Thanks,
Hin
Will post some test shots but don't want to start a debate by posting my informal 50 / 1.7 vs. Tamron shots , also will post size comparison to a commonly known lens pic. The hoods came with these lenses new and are internally threaded to hold a 77mm filter. The actual front eliment is 58mm with no provision for filter . Have to finish some work and will post pics as soon as I can.

I finally get a copy of Tamron SP 24-48mm f/3.5-3.8 adaptall-2 13A. This is a harder-to-find adaptall-2 lens. It really does not show up frequently in ebay. I got a copy with poor cosmetics and without the original lens hood. But test shots seem show good potential.

The front is oddly shaped
Doesn't seem to take on a filter easily though the threads

Next to DA 21mm limited
Not a small and lightweight lens by Pentax standard
Lens hood not original but with a 58 to 62mm step up ring plus a 62mm rubber hood

Test shots without lens hood
and with Pentax white K-x

Tamron SP 24-48mm f/3.5-3.8 adaptall-2 13A

Thanks,
Hin

When I played more with the zoom, the lens is quite good in sharpness. And in some casual shots, it works quite comparable to sharpness from my DA 21mm in the 24mm end. I may be ahead of myself. The zoom does lack the color and flare control that I get from the SMC coating.

Here is a shot taken indoor at f/4.0

Thanks,
Hin

This is a very nice lens. If you have the PK/A is a great combination. I own one and it is a great performer. I have the PK/A and the M42 adaptall for it. Can be used in my SP and my K and DSLRs. It is very rare and price for the lens itself without adaptor is between $80 - $120.

I have more test shots with the lens with my K20D. Flare seems to degrade the contrast even when I have a rubber lens hood on it.
