Opinions on Tamron SP 24-48?

Stumbled across one of these lenses in real nice condition and allready have an adaptall mount for PKA but I think the lens is pricey at $100.00. Anyone with experience with this lens? How is IQ, bokeh, sharpness etc.? Does it work well with Pentax digital (yeah I Know about crop factor).

According to the folks at mf forum, this is a fairly rare lens, and a good one:

ahoy seacapt... can u do me a favor, if possible.. can you post some pics of your pka adapter.. i'm looking to buy one (if i can find one).. and want to make sure that if i have the opportunity, i secure the correct adaptall pka adapter for pentax...

Here you go - as with all A lenses the mount has the contacts, which is the quickest way to tell whether it's K-A or plain K

I may have one for sale later on. I am waiting to get a new one from Frank coming in a few days. I do have one that is pk/a adapter but only do Av mode up to f/4.0. I will retry to follow all the leads in fixing it on scraping one of the screw heads, so far it is not working for me. Usually the pk-a goes around 85 to 125 in ebay.

I have few SP adaptall-2 lens and I can recommend all three that I have tried and the two that I am planning to try. Now I will have one more to pay attention to.

Tarmon SP 70-210mm f/3.5 1:2.6 (19AH)
Tamron SP 28-135mm f/4.0-4.5 1:4 (28AH)
Tamron SP 90mm f/2.5 1:2 (55BB) -- similar to 55B
planning for a SP 35-105mm f/2.8 or SP 35-85mm f/2.8-3.8 (01A)

It seems you like the 28-135's features that I didn't (1-touch zoom, especially) so I'm glad to hear it went to someone who will use it

The 24-48 was a lens I went hunting for, and the shop just happened to have an A 24-50/4 (which I sold a couple months ago). The 24mm starting point is very nice both on film and APS-C...and I have read all the favorable posts on MFF.

For $100, with the PKA Adaptall...that's a deal I wouldn't pass up

Ok Nester already posted pic for you, just make sure it says PK or PK A on the back. I probably would not have gone looking for adaptals but found one in a bag of gear that I bought a while ago. My experiences with them have been mixed.

I found it to be too heavy for my tastes, and I even like heavy lenses

For $100...it's an ok deal. Sorry for the thread jacks but AD2 SP discussions bring out the fans

And the 24-48 is a fairly scare lens to begin with. If nothing else...buy it, use it...keep it or sell it.

That's the reality of "rare" lenses...fewer people can give impressions :/

I think both the A and F 24-50mm Pentax versions usually go for over that price. I really like my F 24-50, it is a great length on digital.

Thought I'd pass this along . I bought the lens and have played with it for a couple weeks now . All I can say is WOW! Shapness and clarity surpassmy A 50/1.7 ! Build is phenominal. You guys with LBA should look for one of these.
The only down sides are :
1) Manual Focus
2) It's heavey but that is what I'm used to ingood glass.
3) Filters mount in hood not on lens.

You should post test photos of the lens as well as the lens itself next to another lens for size comparison. I would think of the oddness in a zoom with its short zoom range. But you never know, when a lens is good in achieving outstanding IQ and sharpness, anything is very much wanted and desired in the LBA landscape. Fast and good quality glass are heavy and I am with you in not staying away from heavy glass.

Does the lens come with a lens hood? Is your lens hood original? It is kind of odd that the filter is mounted on hood instead of your lens. A picture will clarify this better.
