Is this lens better than the pentax 21mm ltd f/3.2 for $400? Seeing as that lens is the same size, lets in more light, and is 150 dollars less.

It's better on my K1000 than the DA21

If the contrast is low though.. hmm... to leitax or not to leitax... (you did mean the voigtländer had low contrast right?)

Well, the week before this lens was announced I picked up an A20/2.8. The A is a great lens, so no regrets. I think this lens will be very good too, I would may have had a little bit of a twinge for this one if the price for this one was like the other 2 SL II lenses.

The DA 21mm is $599.00 (CDN) at Henry's.
That converts to about $482.00 in US currency.

The Voigtlander 20 is $549.00 (USD) from Steve Gandy.
That translates to about $680.00 in CDN money.

My justification for selecting it over the Pentax is for a few reasons; full frame, has aperture ring with 'A' setting; 9 blades (vs. 7 in the Pentax 21) and manual focus (personal preference).

Anybody get it? I asked for a refund of my deposit (and stephen at cameraquest responded very quickly - good customer service!), but I've been shooting quite a bit with the Nokton 58 lately and I am quite happy with it. Oh well, unless Uncle Sam is exceptionally nice to me, I don't think I want to shell out this kind of money just yet... but I'm still curious to hear what people are saying about it!

Just an update on this lens. I am still waiting for my copy. Mr. Gandy says his shipment has yet to arrive from Japan.

Last year I bought M 20/4 for equivalent of 250euros and I still consider it a well used opportunity. This lens may actually be even better, so the price is probably justifiable.

The full frame 20mm lens seems to be a really expensive endeavor...the other day I saw an A 20mm f/2.8 on ebay for ~$600 BIN...

I think the opposite is probably true. SLII lenses have historically increased in value, not decreased. Get in on the ground floor - order now!
