Pricing on the new Voigtlander SLII 20/3.5 lens: $550!!!

I was excited about this lens, but now I'm not so sure... that's a lot of scratch for a not-so-fast and not-so-wide prime. and the hood is an extra $50 bones too. But I've got the Nokton and man, that is a sweet lens even in my not so skilled hands.

DID I MENTION IT'S 550$$$$$$!!!!!?????

Unfortunately, exchange rates are not very favorable right now. Prices for camera products produced in Japan are up all across the board, regardless of manufacturer. Probably there will be price reductions once the cycle swings the other way.

Where did you see that price? Is that a US retail price or list?

I don't see any pricing info on Stephen Gandy's Camera Quest site. I have my $100 deposit waiting there. All manufacturers have jacked up their prices so it's not surprising to see Voigtlander follow suit. I'm not real happy with it, but not shocked.

Quite steep for the pricing...

I think I would give it a pass this time round.

put it on a film camera, this is a bargain compared to the 1400 Euro Zeiss 18mm F3.5

Yeah, where did you get the price?

I'll decide on this one when I see some images With Pentax lens prices skyrocketing in Canada, anything's reasonable :P

Yep, It's confirmed. I received an email from Stephen Gandy today.

The price is $549 for the lens and $39 for the lens shade. However because you placed a deposit, you will get the shade for FREE providing you pay the balance by March 31st!
I am anxious!

hmm.. well I guess it's cheaper than it was new? However, looking in my wallet, unless I find a hapless fool with a lot of R gear for sale for nothing I will probably go for the Voigt. in this case.

My friend Joele had tested the lens out and told me that the lens renders low contrast image at f3.5...
