Let's put it this way, my Pentax local agent doesn't use these so called focus charts to calibrate focus accuracy. Also the lighting used during the tests also plays a part.

Creampuff, do have anything else to say on the subject?

So what does the Pentax local agent use? what kind of lighting and HOW does it affect the test?

Daylight, graduated ruled scale.
Most of the time the issue is with the camera body.
That's the main reason I dumped the K10D for the K20D.

Yes, they are just crops. Here is the full image. Camera height relative to the test chart is not ideal in this test (it was in previous tests) but i don't think this matters too much.
You're probably right on the limit of how small you make that center line and still convince the center AF system to choose it. Have you seen the discussions about how big that center AF sensor really is? It's pretty big. As it is, on this posted shot, it's still seems entirely possible the camera could have chosen the scale above or below. Try shooting from a bit closer so the scales are well outside the range of the AF sensor. If in doubt about just how big the sensor is, perform the experiment I suggested elsewhere: try focusing on a black dot on a white piece of paper and see how far off center the camera will let you do that. You'll find it will happily focus on objects far above and below the red square.

Woooo hooo!!! Got my replacement today and it is good. No backfocus and it's sharp wide open. Thank god for that. Now I can shoot away without stress. Here are a couple wide open.

cheers

I like this one too:
Jeffrey Friedl’s Blog Jeffrey’s Autofocus Test Chart

Try the 20% chart, it works well with Pentax. First, make sure the camera is unable to focus on the grey parts.
