They are two very different lenses. I also like the idea of having something in the foreground be the focus of the image, using the bakground as fill. The Fisheye is perfect for this since I can focus very closely.....I mean almost touching the lens close. The 12-24 doesn't focus as closely so sometimes a little cropping may be in order to get that same feeling of being close.

I think the 10-17 is underrated in terms of its sharpness. It is as sharp as any lens in my kit. In fact, it may be the sharpest lens I own. I recently took a pic of the Brooklyn Bridge and I'm amazed at the sharpness and detail captured by this lens. If I get a chance later on, I'll upload the full-size JPEG to Flickr for anyone who wants to pixel peep. The resulting 12x18 print is amzing...
