while not exactly a LBA post...I bought this lens a while ago, and I only recently re-discovered it in the bottom of my lens drawer.

the Pentax SMC-A 50mm f/1.7. Compared with my 50mm f/1.2 it's very compact....the WB is a bit screwy with these images..on my Bowens 1K heads the colour balance tends to get a bit shaky at low power settings.

Ah, as this venerable thread sags into oblivion I have these thoughts and questions:
Do you buy just to collect, like an old woman aquiring decorative lamps to feed her obsessive compulsive disorder, or do you ....

Yes, I buy like an old woman acquiring decorative lamps to feed my obsessive compulsive disorder. Now get off my lawn, jeffkpotter!

My wife called me from her cell phone today: "Dear, I'm at the antique store downtown. They have a couple of lenses that say Pentax on them. Do you want me to buy them for you?"

Life is good.

Here are two example of LBA to really bust your wallet!
I got these in one purchase:

And these were purchsed individually:
(From the top, the A*300/2.8, A*400/2.8, and A*600/5.6)

Somehow I manage to stay married...

Regards, Jim

I have to ask is there any lens that pentax makes that you dont have? I know your collection is rather impressive. I was thinking really at what number of lens can you truelly say that you have LBA ?

SMC-A 50/1.7, SMC-A 28/2.8, SMC-A 135/3.5, and Vivitar 50/1.9.

All duplicates, but the middle two are in better shape than the ones I have. And all four for $45 total...

This thread is both hilarious and an indication of the path I'll be following when I stop being a student and start earning more money.

Can't wait.

Oh my god. (turning pale)

Probably worth about (conservative estimate) $250 sold separately in the marketplace section.

Again, nice wife.

Jim, what is it like focusing that A* 400 f/2.8? This elements are huge, does
it feel extremely dampened, or how is it geared? It seems like that focus ring would be
like turning a ship's rudder.

It's probably too much hassle - I'll take it off your hands, save you the tendon strain.

G'day Jim,

I can see a whole new thread (or even its own forum) coming up here, titled:

"How to condition your wife" :ugh:......should be a hit for our younger members (gotta go...someones coming )

God bless her, hope you bought her some flowers.

Cheers
Grant

G'day Grant!

Well, all I can say is that the last time I went to Melbourne (business trip), she went out and bought herself a new car. So I'm still not quite even yet.

Is it considered Lens abuse when.....

On Sunday I pulled the trigger and ordered the 70mm from Adorama, and believe it or not it shipped the same day. As promised the lens showed up on Tuesday and I had to catch an early flight to California on business so the poor thing has been sitting in the box on my kitchen table all week. Here I am waiting to catch the red-eye home. So my thought is, can I be accused of lens abuse (or possibly abandonment) by not being there when it arrived?????
