Manual Hoya HMC 80-205 zoom/macro

I have just purchased the above rather spontaeously from a junk shop, and am a bit unclear as to how to operate it with the K100d as I am not familiar with manual lenses. I have managed to set it up so that the camera recognises it but:

1) I'm not sure what focal length to input when prompted and
2) it doesn't zoom, it has a fixed length and I'm not sure how to tell what length it's fixing at

Sorry, if these are really stupid questions, would appreciate some help if anyone cares to assist..

Many people put in the median focal length (in this case (85+205)/2=145), but some put in the lowest (85) to make sure they don't over shake-reduce. Your call.

I don't get the second question. How does a zoom lens not zoom? Usually there's a number on the barrel that tells you what focal length the lens is at. If it's not there, dont worry too much about it, just shoot at whatever length you find good to use at the moment.

thanks - it says it's a zoom, but it doesn't zoom - it remains at the same length. confused

It's a push-pull zoom lens. Have you tried "pushing" the entire focus ring forward?
