EV compensation with DA 55-300

Shortly after receiving my DA 55-300 lens I went to Rd. Atlanta to try it out. I am quite happy with the lens, but notice I have to dial in -0.7 to -1.0 ev compensation on my K10D after switching from the DA 18-55.

I have read some of the discussions related to this regarding manual lenses on digital bodies, but have not seen anything about it on dedicated digital lenses.

Has anyone else come across this? Surely the glass in the two lenses can't be that different!

Have you compared while shooting at a blank wall, or at the same focal length (ie, 55mm) while looking at the same scene? Otherwise, it's kind of tough to make a comparison between the lenses, as they won't be looking at the same scenes.

My K10D has generally + 0.3 dialed in as standard with my 18-55

Have found I can use my 55-300 with +0.5 comfortably in daily average shooting but have also shot at zero comp. without any hassles

Something definitely doesn't seem right that your lens overexposes this would mean that the camera is saying that the lens is letting in too much light for the the given scene.
