20-ish mm? f2? (dreaming) AF? Does it exist?

One of the main advantages of primes, to me at least, is faster apertures for a given price point. I carry my SMC-A 50 f1,4 all the time only for the speed it gives me.

It seems pretty difficult to find a fast wide lens, however. Why are those so uncommon? It seems something like a 20-24 mm f2 lens makes much sense. Or is it just me?

I know there's a 15 mm f4, but that's a bit too wide (and I have the Sigma 17-70, at f2,8 it's not that bad).

Any thoughts?

There's always the Sigma 20mm 1.8.

Sigma 24mm f/1.8 is a hot seller on eBay. I want to get the 28mm f/1.8 Sigma but keep getting outbid.

If you want W-I-D-E and fast, Canon 24mm f/1.4L on a full-frame body....

But the Sigma 20mm f/1.8 should still work nicely for you

You could always get a Leica M8.2 together with the new Summilux 21mm F1.4 lens
That should be fast and wide enough!?

From my perspective this is the biggest gap in the lens line-up for Pentax.

I love my DA 21 but I wouldn't mind if it were bigger if I could get down to F2 with it.

pentax's philosophy has always been compactness at the cost of speed.

even when they had the Super Takumars, these things are tiny.

however they make a few exceptions, the OLD SMC 15mm f3.5 (which covered a full image circle), and the now DA 14 F2.8

I have to agree here.
It's quite bad that the only (I don't count zooms) 20ish lens in current Pentax line up can only do f3.2.
Couple it with FA*24 unavailability/price and not the best reputation. And unavailabilty of FA20/2.8 and it's quite depressing. I really hope they will do DA24/2-2.8 as replacement for FA35/2 for their APS-C system...
