New (to me) Lens; Pentax-M 50mm F1.7

Got this fantastic piece from Mo. It's so sharp I might cut myself...

Here are some photos:

Seek as you will, you'll not find anything to compare. (Except, perhaps, the Smc Takumar, PK, FA etc. from the same impeccable family.)

Rolly, no kidding. I'm amazed by this lens. Entranced, really. I had no idea I'd love this lens so much!!

FotoPete, it's worth the wait, no?

I just picked up an A 50/1.7, and while I'm more than happy with the IQ, I'm disappointed in the cheap plastic build and jerky, imprecise aperture ring. Maybe I'll see if I can't pick up an M 50/1.7 also...

Crap...the A/F/FA 50/1.4s had better not be like that!

It could just be that I'm used to using M's and Takumars, so my build quality standards could be unreasonably high. I dunno. Gives great results in any case, and besides, I don't have to use the aperture ring on my K100D. Just annoying on a film camera.

My favorite non-macro 50mm is the FA 50/1.7, followed by the A 50/1.2. The 1.4 is nice as well, but a bit softer than the 1.7 IMO.

Only a few of the A lenses featured a flimsly plastic barrel, so don't be worrying about the build quality of the F's and FA's! It's superb!

That is fricken awesome! I just, bought the FA 1.4, I may have to get this 1.7 as well. Should I expect the same results in all the 1.7's M/A/F/FA or is one superior to the other. I would prefer to get the autofocus as my eyes are less than perfect...

That's exactly what I thought with my 'fast 50'

I got the K 50 1.2 a while back and fell in love with it. All of the "fast 50's" are amazing lenses!

My SMC M 50 1.4 rocketed to my favourate lens the first time I put it on
love how it is built like a tank but doesn't weigh as much as one

cheers

I lost my FA 1.7 in Italy years ago... when I think how cheap I got that second hand it makes me mad that I lost it. ... MAAAAAD I tell you. I have a M 50 1.7 I use on my K1000 and MZ5n though which is nice and 'old skool' but I'd rather have the FA.
