Silver lenses...

Are/were their any silver lenses that I can buy other than the FA* and FA Limited? I have a near mint K1000 that I want to get a daily driver lens for, but I would like it in silver. Was silver only for the special models back in the MF days as well?

In metal only or is plastic OK? There are some plastic FA lenses.

SMC Pentax FA 80-320mm f/4.5-5.6 AF Silver Telephoto NR - eBay (item 320355246872 end time Apr-06-09 10:38:05 PDT)

I see these in silver all the time. Rumored to be decent glass too.

FA-J isn't a good lens choice for a K1000. Aperture ring or bust(ed backwards compatibility).

Unfortunately the old Zebra black and silver thread mount lenses aren't a good choice either unless you're willing to carry a light meter, the K1000 body doesn't have any provision for stop down metering.

It's possible that Zeiss, Voigtlander or another 3rd party manufacturer made a silver manual lens for Pentax at one point or another but I can't think of any particular lens right now that isn't M42 mount or in the FA series.

Tamron used to make some adaptal lenses in silver/chrome. I have a 105mm f2.5 tamron in the silver color.

Thanks for the replies, I guess I should of been more specific. I was looking for a prime, somwhere in the 28-75mm range, if the old 40mm pancake came in silver that would of been cool, or the 28mm even. Oh well, I will hunt on ebay for a while i spose. Thanks again.

DAP - I would love to see a pic of your Tamron!

Thank you for linking to that, as the seller of that particular item it's always nice to get the extra coverage!

If you look at my other items you'll see I'm also selling a matching silver FA28-80 which will probably end up going cheap.

AFAIK, Pentax never made any silver lenses in the older MF ranges. If you really want a silver MF prime then you'll have to go down the M42 route - chrome Zeiss Tessars are fairly commonplace and very good quality. I'm also selling one of these at the moment but a later model in black unfortunately.

Personally, I've found that the FA43 is all the lens I ever need on film. I have a silver one that lives on my MX and is, frankly, sublime. The silver paint of the FA series though isn't an exact match for the earlier chrome bodies, rather they were intended to match the silver on the MZ/ZX series. Still looks good though!

Actually they did. But if you can find it, you probably have to buy the whole deal

See you on the other side

Well spotted Martin - that one had slipped my mind. I try not to think about lenses I can't afford...

No stop-down meter on the K1000? If the M42 lens has a manual aperture or the M/A switch, the meter should work just fine.
