Teleconverter help

Hello I have a sigma 70-300 mm f/4 5.6 DG macro telephoto zoom lens, that I use with a Pentax K10D. Could someone please tell me what is the best teleconverter to use with this lense.

Thank you very much

Orlando

If you insist on a TC, I think you should go with a 1.4X or 1.5X. With a 2X, you'll lose AF and a great deal of IQ.

I like my Tamron 1.4X. The going price (used) is $100-$140.

mornin' orlando.... hinman, a great pentaxian, has posted the following;

Promaster 1.7x AF Teleconverter Pentax - Hin's Tech Corner

he also compares this with the tamron 1.4x..... i won't put words in his mouth, but,
he seems to be impressed with the promaster 1.7x, which can be had new for about 90 bucks delivered... but, check ebay or this forum for used teleconverters, under the 2x power rating.... (p.s. i just 'snagged' a used promaster 1.7x for 30 bucks, delivered )...
i will update with my impresssions....

That lens is so slow chances are you will lose AF no matter what TC you put on it.

Not necessarily.

The combo of Sigma 135-400mm (f/5.6 at 400mm) and Tamron 1.4X TC works fine - slow, but not unbearably slow.

Even my Tamron 18-250mm (f/6.3 at 250mm) can still do AF with the Tamron 1.4X TC. It hunts but if there is something contrasty, it can do it.
