Hood for Super Takumar 135 3.5

I recently found a dedicated hood for super takumar 135 3.5 on ebay, and I'm thinking about getting it, but it's more than 10 dollars, so I am wondering if it's really worth it? What advantages will it bring except for cutting flare and ability to shoot at a smaller degree to the sun?

Hoods in general

  1. It will increase contrast for most images.
  2. The hood also protects the front element from damage. Many here say one should always shoot without a filter (except when they are necessary for a film shot) and with a hood for protection.
  3. Only you know whether it is worth it to you - but $10 is pretty cheap.

Well, thats about it. really. I just found one in a junk box and I'm thinking it might be a good hood for my 77mm LTD.

I would say 10 bucks may be a little steep as this particular hood is incredibly common and can be found on the bay just about daily. however if you can justify the 10 bucks the hood will be more than worth it. will you be using this on a Super-Takumar 135? I assume you are so yes I would agree especially for the older Super-Takumar version, a hood is a good investment.

If you are shooting digital, you should use a 200mm hood (1.5*135). The hood should just barely be out of the field of view of the lens for the optimum flare protection.

I use one of the cheap rubber extendible hoods (purchased on e-bay). Fits perfect on my Super Takumar 35, 55, 135, and my M 50 f1.4. Having one hood that fits multiple lenses saves a little on bag space.

Well, that's true, but having to screw it on one lens, then screw off and screw on on another lens, etc, etc, is kinda tedious

the original Tak hood is worth $10, it's all metal, and pretty all old and new pentax lenses are 42mm, this hood work in most lenses. of course you can pay less for some cheap plastic hood, but this metal hood is great.

I've seen some hoods going for more then the lenses on eBay!

You should take monochrome's offer... or I will!

I recently got one for my Super Takumar 200 f/4, and it also fits my 58mm Voigtlander Nokton with no noticeable vignetting which surprised me--score one for the crop factor! It wasn't in perfect shape, but original and all-metal, so to me it was worth more than $10.
