Wow, it has feathers too? Is that first for a lens? And will the feathers also be dustproof?

That's part of the self cleaning system.

I hope it performs better than that preview that came out a while back. If so, it would be an extremely useful focal range in what looks like a relatively lightweight lens.

And a cheap price, too!

This lens will have to absolutely trounce the 55-300 re: cost vs performance.

If it doesn't word will soon get around and the sale of this lens will die - which also wouldn't do well for the sales and marketing re: Pentax

$1600.00?? Did I convert the price correctly for this lens from babelfish? If so, I guess that I will opt for the DA*200 for my distant portrait needs. Wow!

Yeah I couldn't believe the proposed cost of this lens in our country

Equivalent to the cost of a DA 300 F4!

As I mentioned above it would have to have the absolute best IQ period at all lengths and apertures for its asking price.

I don't quite understand the price discussion. The 60-250/4 is a pro-spec lens. It fills a gap, many, many photogs complained about (and rightly so). And now we get that pro-spec lens and some people complain about the price tag. Compare that to equivalent lenses of similar specs and the price will certainly look okayish. No manufacturer can produce pro equipment at amateur prices. The nearest lens to compare, would be the Sigma 100-300/4. And that is certainly not a cheap option, if you look at the most recent incarnation of that lens - and ofcourse it is off-brand. I bet a similar lens from Canon or Olympus would be more expensive.

For me personally this lens is of not much interest anymore, as it comes years too late and I will not go away from my trusted Sigma 70-200/2.8.

My personal opinon is, that the K20 was way too cheap over the last 8 months or so. That makes for the false impression, that Pentax is able to give away top-products for free. If the 60-250 is too expensive for an amateur budget, which I can fully understand, there is still a good alternative available, aka the 55-300, albeit a bit slower and less built to mil.-specs.

people were complaining about the price tag back when comperative pentax glass was cheap

50-135* for 750 bucks, and you bust down the 60-250 for 1.5K?

with the recent-across-the-board price hikes, the price finally makes sense.

however in light of past history, it is still pretty high.

One man from Russian Pentax club - tried DA*60-250/4 at Moscow Photo Expo several days ago.
Bokeh is smooth and calmly. But he said that FA*80-200 has more beautiful bokeh.
Anyway he liked DA*60-250/4. Good picture, good build.
