What's with the barrel? That's wacky crazy looking, like it has two filters surgically attached or something. Looks like a new model to me, likely be A04. Man, they just keep coming out of the woodwork!

Hope this one works for you but 30cm is not particularly close focus for these lenses. I think the closest one is 14cm and some are 20cm.
I'm hoping/quessing that 1ft is the first mark on the scale after the "macro" setting but there seems to be quite a long way from the macro 1:4x to the start of the scale (not seen in the pic). So it might be considerably closer than 1ft, right?

edit: the seller said he'll send it today, so I'm hoping I'll get it before the weekend. I'll report back then.

I just posted some shots taken with the Kiron 28/2 AKA the Vivitar 28/2 K11. So far I'm loving it! Check them out.

My mystery lens arrived today and it was a normal Komine made 2.8/28mm without A-setting or the "Macro" marking on the focus scale.

I sent an email to the seller and asked him whats the deal and am waiting for his reply...

Best of luck with that. I have the odd feeling the photo is from a totally different lens.

The article Vivitar K11 On Test is up on my blog. Several comparison shots at f/4 versus f/2 which shows what one would guess. At f/4 the lens is totally already rocking, but f/2 is just too soft, unless you really want that effect. A nice lens!

The seller had a wrong picture in the listing. He was very sorry and offered me full refund and also told me I can keep the lens

I've finally got around to shooting with the K02 AKA "Jay's lens" and have posted the initial results of the informal lens test on my blog. Verdict: it looks fine and might be the very best of all the f/2.8 variants. I am sure Jay is not surprised!

Here are some additional shots, all taken with my K20D hand-held in natural light, ISO100 and f/4, which seems a great aperture for this lens.

The first shot is focused at 23cm, the closest the lens will go. This resulted in 1/500s. First up is the complete image, and then a 100% crop. These have been run through my usual PP with a bit of sharpening, but nothing special.

dandelion [full image]

dandelion [100% crop]

For the second shot I backed off a bit to 60cm and the speed came to 1/1000s. Again, the the complete image is followed by a 100% crop from the centre.

garden stone [full image]

garden stone [100% crop]

This is incredible performance for a lightweight lens that steps close to macro territory. I am sure that with a tripod or focus bracketing the image could have been even tighter.

Another amazing Vivitar!

I totally agree: K02 F8 or so - neighbour's carpet python - slight crop and processed from raw in Sikypix3.

No worries Robin, this non venomous snake is just so cute - only 4 months old and 30cm long and as big in the neck as a child's pinky finger - perhaps the geckoes would not agree:

I purposely kept a size reference out of the images. feed it some more geckoes chickens and small dogs and it will get to 3 metres though.

He he... actually I like snakes. A friend used to have them as pets and his young daughters took to them from when they were 2 or so. One was an albino called Bonehead.

Love those shots Arjay.

Yes, the K02! Gus has my copy now, but I replaced it with the SMS version of the same lens. Gus posted some eyelash-counting portraits from it earlier that blew me away again. Truly, truly sharp.

The K02 and probably the K01 and maybe a couple others are worthy of a years-long lens hunt, scouring ebay, local shops, and the marketplace until you land one. Sweet glass.

Jay,
I really think you got a knack in macro composition and the proper lighting, but hey all credits to the lens :-)

Here's a not so close-focus from M11

Better with JPG: In-cam desaturation makes for non-clipping reds

drool! that puts my silly stargazer lily series to shame.
uh Jay, i'm pretty sure your amazing photos arent attributed to the various lenses, but to the photographer. I bet you could even make beautiful Polaroids.
always a pleasure seeing your posts.
