LBA continues... what next.

So I ordered the DA 16-45mm and the 50mm f1.4 so I am feeling pretty good with that combination up through the DA 50-200mm that I already have, but what about over 200? What are my good options on that side of the spectrum. I have played with a 100-300 that I have but dont really like. For shooting birds and other wildlife in the area I think I need to go to 400 at least, or should I just get a teleconvertor for now?

I think you'll find 200mm fairly adequate for now. Remember that's equivalent of 300mm which is about 6 times closer than what you normally see with your eyes.

Sorry can't agree there, 200mm just doesn't cut it for me for birdlife. That's why I'm selling mine and got the Pentax 80-320.

The Sigma 70-300 APO gets a fairly loyal following.

Hi Arpe
You mention the Pentax 80-320. Sounds like just what I am looking for as my next purchase. Looked into Pentax website, not even mentioned or at least I cant find anything on that one. Is that model yet to be released or what? I have never heard of it, but then again, that's not saying much.

I agree, the 50-200 even if it is at 300 wasnt good enough. With that being said, the 100-300 was at 450 and that was barely tolerable for where I am shooting. That 80-320 sounds fun. I was thinking about the Sigma 135-400 or the 170-500. I see that there is a guy on here selling his Tokina 80-400. I am not sure when I willl be making this purchase but I would like to get some preliminary opinions on what people like and dislike. I think a purchase of a macro lens may come before this pirchase actually.

A couple ot test shots

I dcided to go out and get some test shots with the 300 @300 to show what I normally get. These are about as close as I can hope to get to a bird where I am at. These are 100% crops.

The Moon shot is a 25% crop and they are all shot handheld.

Not made any more - have to go second hand I'm afraid.
