Awesome! Thanks. I guess I'd better hit that "checkout now" button huh. I do love new stuff.

Some action shots

These are the ones I can get to easily - and they were from my first time using the lens. The later ones are better, but I can't get them from where I am now.

i'll share my own action shots.... i dont do kendo and im not part of the kendo club but i figured it'd be good to take photos of the demo to test out the lens' ability for action shots.. cause well, kendo requires people to be pretty quick

Well you all have convinced me. I placed my order this morning. Hopefully it'll arrive before the games on Saturday.

If you think that price increase is bad for an extra 100mm, look at what an extra stop will cost you -
Canon 200mm f/2.8 ~$600
Canon 200mm f/2.0 - ~$5000

That's about $4400 more dollars for just one stop (oh, and they throw in IS for free )

The reason for that is the narrow DOF IMHO. Portraits out of a 200/2 are amazing....

Re the shots a couple of posts further on - if this is a "game" then what is war?

And I have a 55-300 which I bought instead of a 75-300 Sigma (albeit, the non-APO version which was not available at the dealer concerned) for holiday use because it is smaller, lighter and sharper - and I generally buy Sigmas because they are very good!.

As for the 55-300 being a heavy lens? - I don't think so! It's "toy-sized" in comparison with a lot of lenses (including my older 70-200 F2.8 and 28-200 F3.5/5.6
Sigmas)!! [ I would have said "Dinky-toy" sized", but I expect only the older UK members would have known what I meant!"]

Holy cow. I can't wait to get my lens. Nice.

As for the weight, puleeze. I doubt it will be an issue. I have a 50-135 which is not a feather, and a ~50 year old Takumar 200/3.5 which is huge and all metal and weighs a ton. I've shot sports with that sucker handheld. I think I can handle this little zoom. I've also shot MRRiley+'s BIGMA handheld as well. But my back was hurting after about a half hour of that.

Don't you just love helping other people spend their money?

Good choice, Mel.
It simply is a great performer, ticking all the boxes for a good lens other than speed.

Clearly lenses are not priced by the millimeter/focal length. I have both and in my mind the 55-300 can pretty much replace both the 50-200 and 80-320 (or 7x-300)--smaller & lighter than most of the latter, has the handy short (50-55mm) end of the former. You really need to spend a lot more to do better than the DA55-300 and whatever it is will be much larger & heavier.
