No pin in mine

Good Morning,

Great post and thanks for the tips on the conversion.

Mine arrived yesterday, a good looking Helios 44M-4 with screw mount.

After removing it from the packaging, I noticed the pin was missing, so I could not control the aperture blades.

Taking it apart as the instructions below, I manufactured a pin out of some solder (no I didn't solder the lens), just a little length with more wrapped around it to create the washer.

The aperture now opens and closes when the aperture ring is rotated, but every now and then it closes when trying to fully open the iris. I have also held down the rocker switch with my little finger and after a few opens and closes it does the same.

Also, It stops stepping down at 11 and will only open to 2,8. I can live with this as it only cost £8 + shipping, the lenses are in perfect condition along with the body.

My reason for posting is to ask if anyone else has encountered the above, or is it something to be expected because of the way the lens has been manipulated with the conversion.

Thanks for any assistance in advance.

Same problem here:

..I used a piece of plastic tube from a ball pen (measure the length by sticking it on the pin to begin with). It works very well, thanks.

Managed to pick up a minty version of this (not even any internal dust that I can see) while in the UK at a charity shop for 5 pounds. Just did the mod using the cotton bud stick. Works brilliantly Thanks.

Just got one and haven't been able to unscrew it. What type of screwdrivers do you use? I've tried a small one from the obstetrician but it easily bent the whole screw driver when I tried removing them.
