Tamron 2x Tele MC7

I received the Tamron 2x SP teleconverter KR BBAR MC7 in a large package deal recently. Has anyone here any experience with it? Is it decent?

No, it's terrible. You should send it to me for proper disposal.

I had one once and if I remember correctly it didn't do too bad. I am not much of a teleconverter person though, especially for 2x use.

Re: Tamron 2x Tele MC7

I have the PZ-AF BBAR MC7 model.

It doesn't do too badly with my 300mm F4 lens or the 100mm F2.8. With the zooms the image quality is very noticeably deteriorated.

There is a slight contrast loss, and also a slight colour cast, both of which can be fixed on a computer. Plus of course, the 2-stop light reduction. It does best on bright sunny days. Focal length increase is often helpful for birds / wildlife.

Sharpness is so-so. Again, PP helps.

Two examples:

_______
#1.

Camera: PENTAX *ist D
Other equipment: AF-330FTZ external flash, TAMRON 2x TC
Lens: SMC PENTAX-A* 300mm F4 (MF-only)
Shutter-speed: 1/150 second
Aperture: F2.5 (Real F-number approx F9. TC messes numbers)
ISO: 400

_______
#2.

Camera: PENTAX *ist D
Other equipment: Velbon CX-540 tripod, TAMRON 2x TC
Lens: SMC PENTAX-A* 300mm F4 (MF-only)
Shutter-speed: 1/250 second
Aperture: F2.8 (Real F-number approx F9. TC messes numbers)
ISO: 400

-----------------------------
When I attach the TC to either of my lenses on the *ist D, the maximum F-number selectable goes up F1.7 on the 300mm, F1.2 on the 100mm, at times to F1.4. Of course, this is bogus. Camera / lens / TC aren't communicating 100% properly. Focal length change isn't recorded in EXIF either, it stays as if the lens were on its own.

I recently acquired the Tamrom-F 2x PZ-AF BBAR AF Tele-Converter for Pentax mount (not adaptall). It does have SDM contacts as well. Has anyone used this with the DA * 50-135 - or other fast lenses?

I've used it with SMC PENTAX-F 100mm F2.8 MACRO.

Screw-drive AF works reasonably well. Little more sluggish... but works.

It also works with SIGMA 70-300mm, on very bright days.
