Kiron serial #

Is it true that all vivitars that have serials that start with 22... are Kiron made? All sizes? I like my 70-150mm so much I think I may look for a longer one. If I can find one, that is.

I may have answered my own question... I'd post the info here, but there's a very stern copyright warning at the bottom.

yea generally Kiron (22), Tokina (37) and Komine (28) made the best Vivitar lenses. Cosina (09) is the currently manufacturer for Vivitar branded lenses. Some are quite decent but are no where as close to the 'golden days' of the past.

I just got a Vivitar (22) 70-205mm/3.8 around the same time as you got your 70-150. It looks and and feels very solid. The thing though is that it seems a bit soft but I guess thats just from too much pixel peeping.

Anyhow there's a similar zoom made by Komine, the Vivtar 80-200/4.5. Judging by the state of my LBA, I might end up buying one totally out of impulse. I already have 4 zooms with this focal length and 3 primes in the area.

Anyhow back to Cosina. They made a full frame 19-35mm/3.5-4.5 lens that was reported fairly sharp. (Would be nice for the 35mm film cameras.) Build quality's been an issue though. Cosina also makes a 100mm/3.5 macro lens thats commonly seen under Phoenix branding as well as Vivitar. The lens was well received in terms of image quality but it only focuses down to 1:2 life size and needed a filter to get up to 1:1.

the 100mm/3.5 macro is also branded as a pentax.
for makers of vivitar lenses , check here
Vivitar Lens Manufactuers
lenses by kino, kiron and by komine are usually the best.
