ASAHI SMC PENTAX 1000mm F8 $$?

Can anybody tell me what i should pay for a 1000mm F8?

It is in reasonable condition with a few marks on the external metal.

There is a few smallish blooms of fungus on the first couple of elements which doesnt seem to be effecting the image and should be cleaned easily enough (is this expensive?)

It comes in its own felt lined aluminium case.

Dunno about the "right price" but there was(maybe still is) one for sale on a German forum for 649€ (~850$). Click here.

Usually the prices on that forum are bit lower than on ebay.

On ebay there are plenty of listings for a generic 1000 f8 for only a ouple of hundred dollars buy it now.

Am i to assume these are a considerably inferior product?

i think your better off with the cheap versions as at the end of the day they are all mirror lenses and never that great.

That is not correct. The Pentax 1000/8 is a pure lens design, big, heavy and quite good. I have seen pictures taken with that particular lens, that is now on sale in the German forum, and it is a very good performer. Takken into account, that the seller also includes the Pentax 2x TC etc., it is a very good deal.

I seem to recall a Pentax 1000/f8 going for less than 1000 USD a couple of months ago on ebay.

Yes, I think around 1k is the usual price. The one referred to is in really good condition and has the accessories - so the price is very good from the "Euro" perspective, perhaps not so good from the "Dollar" perspective, though. Shipping to the US would be very expensive on top.

I watch ebay quite a bit and only recall seeing a couple of Tele-Takumar 1000mm lenses go and that was several years ago. One went for $800 and the other %1100. You see the 400mm and 500mm lenses much more often.

How much will the tripod cost to use this beast?

Lens strip and clean is around $150aud assuming you can find a repairer prepared to clean a fungus infected lens.

No discernible effect on the image.
