85mm lenses post your images and comments

like the title says, I would like to see comparitive posts from 85mm lens options.

my basic question is.

For the price, how does the samyang / vivitar / bower 85mm F1.4 stack up against the older SMC Pentax 85mm F1.8, or the SMC / Super Tak 1.8 and 1.9 lenses?

the Vivitar version shown on the B&H site is a KA mount, at $349

I saw those, and there is also a good link comparing these lenses to the A and FA lenses.

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/54815-fa-85mm-vs-85mm.html

I am more interested in what the K and Tak versions can do, better than the samyang, and is it worth trying to get one of those on fleabay as opposed to just getting a brand new 85mm F1.4

I saw on Amazon that there is an Opteka 85mm 1.4 but couldn't find any information about it.

Auto Takumar f 1.8 85mm JPG out of camera, no PPing. I think this was @ f11, but it could be f8.

Not having any time right now to do any 85mm shooting, all I can offer is a link to some previous 85mm comparison tests of mine, of six various Pentax 85mm lenses and the K-mount Russian Zenitar MC 85/1.4.

The Great Pentax 85mm Lens Shoot-Out

The above link is for some old scans of 4x6 prints from way back in the pre-digital days of yore (<g>), so they're not as useful as if they were big DSLR images (sorry)...

I believe that's the same as the Samyang - also sold under the Vivitar and Bower names and probably others too.

Thanks Marc, when I was looking, I came across the Bower and thought they looked the same. the Bower was quite a bit more expensive though.

Lowell: I love my Auto Takumar, but much of that love stems from sentimental attachment. The Vivitar pics I have seen look awfully good and the lens offers things you will not get in the older Takumars:

1) f1.4
2) Auto-Focus
3) Brand-new availability with, I assume, some kind of warranty

I need to shoot more with my Auto Tak 85mm--here is another one:

Not so sure they are Auto focus, but at least one photo and some write ups indicate Auto exposure, which is more important. I want to use a flash on the K10D with this lens from time to time, and AE with the p-ttl compatability is a big bonus.

$299 + $14.95 Shipping. I bought stuff from them before I believe, no hassle.

thanks.

The link you show has a photo of a manual apature lens.

I will look into the one B&H has at $350 because the extra $50 is worth it for an KA mount lens.

I wonder in reality what you get as I have now seen both varients for about the same price.
