Questions about Takumar 70-210mm

This weekend I picked up a camera lot and this Takumar lens was included. It works fine except the zoom ring is pretty tight. It works, but it's difficult to turn the ring and it seems to snap into place when I zoom all the way out to 210mm. Is this normal for the Takumars'? Is there a way to fix it? Here is the lens in question:

The bayonet Takumars are the low end produced by Pentax. They lack SMC coatings, having only single coatings, and (as you have discovered) are not quite up to Pentax mechanical standards. The optical formula is the same as the Pentax F lens, which looks almost identical. Try it out. It might work for you.

The zoom mechanism on this lens uses four nylon rollers in grooves in two metal lens barrels. Two move straight in and out and two spiral around. No grease is involved. Probably one or more rollers are worn out. Access to the rollers involves considerable disassembly, and parts are going to be a problem. I would just leave it alone as long as it still moves. You might keep your eyes out for a parts lens with another fatal issue and tackle the repair if/when you find one.
