Hi all. As a new to the Pentax k20D I would like some advice on what lenses people have used for churches, weddings, interiors such as museums, restaurants etc. I have just bought the k20D and a Sigma 10/20mm f4-5.6 DC EX and a Sigma 28-300 f3.5-6.3 A spherical IF Hiperzoom, so am not lookng to go overboard on price but it does need to be obviously good on low light situations and have a good wide angle. When I had the Canon 5D I was using a 24-105 USM but as I am new to Pentax after some years from when i had the k10d I would appreciate some advice on Pentax. Sigma. etc. Will post some shots taken with the 10-20 sigma lens soon, what a challenge that was best regards to all. Kevin

I'm using a Sigma 18-50mm 1:2.8 most of the time. Large aperture is important to me.

I have not found any fast wide-angle lens that does not cost less than an arm and a leg. I'm thinking of buying a Ricoh 100 GX or 200 GX with a wide angle adapter and use it as my "wide angle zoom lens."

I do use it for weddings and informal portraits.

For formal portrait, I use either a Pentax-F50 1:1.7 or a pre-AI Nikkor-P 105mm 1:2.5.

One lens 18-50mm is not sufficient for weddings and churches. The last time, I borrowed a Pentax 50-135mm 1:2.8. For the next wedding, I'll buy that Pentax lens, or a Sigma 50-150mm 1:2.8 (I like a 70-200mm 1:2.8, but I'm afraid that it's too big and too heavy).

I still need to cover the wide angle. 10-20mm sounds great, but is kind of too slow. That's why I think of the Ricoh.

I have a Tamron 18-250mm and a Tamron 28-300mm. They a great general- purpose lenses, but too slow for indoor and for weddings/churches.

Hi gemini. I had that one for a day and took it back, the focusing was terible, they never had another copy so I bought 2 other lenses but they leave me short for studio and wedding work?. All the best. kevin

Hi. OK I will look into these 2 lenses, what is the quality like on the 18-50mm?. I have just put up some images on flicker after a few hours using the sigma 10-20mm IF. Will post some more soon. Do you have any images you could post from the 18-50

A DA* 55mm F1.4 is also a good choice...

Are you sure the 16-50 you tried was functioning OK?
This lens really is one of the best in its focal range, and is perfect for weddings.
I've used it at one, comparing it with another I shot with the Tamron 28-75 (which I think is an amazing lens for its price), and despite the stats I still think the 16-50 clearly wins over the 28-75.

I think you'll find that your 28-300 is just a little too slow to use for weddings - most shots will need to be taken in shade or indoors, making you have to bump ISO really high and/or shoot wide open at the risk of getting soft images. You really need something faster than f/2.8 to get the job done IMO.

The Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 is an excellent choice, and performs very well wide open.

i'm unhappy if you found a not good pentax 16-50mm


but a good 16-50mm is an excellent lens!
maybe a little short.... but it is a good choice for wide<=>short-tele

I've found that my Sigma 28-70 f/2.8 works great at weddings. I also carry my 50 1.4.

I love using the Sigma 24-60 f2.8 for indoor low light shots; bought it last year when the lens are available everywhere for cheap (my only other lens then was the 18-250).

The DA*16-50, Sigma 24-70 and the 18-50 were all out of my budget.
