Great sharpness and it seems a ultra high level lens...

Looks very promising.

I checked out its Australian price.....wait for it.... $2850aud

So why on earth would anyone pay that for it in Australia when it can be purchased online at Adorama or B&H for $1400 usd.? madness.

Converted, that is $1000 less than here.

As much as I want to support a local store...I simply can not justify the difference.

Some one needs to wake up.

It sure looks sweet! Hmm.. maybe I should sell my 2 day old LX3

I wonder how good/fast the AF is? And do you think the AF of the current SDM lenses will improve with the upcoming Pentax body?

The very high contrast shots (tree branches against the sky) I've seen on the Pentax UK forums looks very promising. No discernible CA

Call me nuts but it's not really a "carry about" lens so what exactly do you use a 60-250 for? It's too big for casual shooting, too short for serious long work .... I just cannot find a use for it.

filter 67 mm

compare with FA*80-200/2.8
195*88 mm
1510 gramm
filter 77 mm

Sigma 100-300/4
227*92 mm
1445 gramm

Very compact and not heavy lens with good focal range - 90-380 mm.

Dare I say, they actually pulled it off, this lens may rival the canon 70-200 f4 L and the sigma 100-300, now lets hope the price drops to about $999 or something soon as thats all my CC can handle

Personally I have no need for this focal length, but I assume it would be good for portraiture and outdoor event shooting.

Man, that's much smaller and more compact than my FA*80-200/2.8
Thanks for the comparison OGL.
Now this is one more thing for me to consider this lens.

I still think that Pentax has been delaying the release of this lens to match with the new camera. There might be some function that will benefit if used with the new upcoming camera.

It could make a nice 85-350 f/5.6 with an 1.4x converter...

I guess it would have a similar use as the highly regarded Canon 70-200/4. It adds 10mm at the wide end and 50mm at the long end, not bad. And nobody question the usefulness of the Canon.

For the record, I am quoting this chart from Dpreview forum member Richardday. I thought it provided a helpful comparison.

If I shot events (which I don't) I'd much prefer this range over the 50-135mm (though at the loss of a stop - well, ISO performance keeps getting better ). Since I don't shoot events, and mostly shoot nature / landscapes, this seems like an awesome walkaround lens (consider I've been walking around a lot lately with the 400mm F4 Tamron SP ) but for one failing... the magnification is listed as .15x which is 1:6.66 (the devils macro) - worse than the 50-135 for closeups, and I already find the 50-135 unacceptable in this regard .

Glad I've got a Tamron* 70-200mm f/2.8.
