Looking for Recommendations

I recently recived a nice little bonus at work and my wife has said I can spend it on a new lens. Now the questions is which one????

I recently picked up the 70mm and I have the 50mm 1.4 and right now I'm torn between the 35mm 2.0 or the 40mm 2.8. I'm thinking that the 40 is to close to the 50mm which would mean the 35 would give me a nice range with the 70 and 50 as far as primes. I've seen wonderful pictures and great reviews on both lenses so I'm looking for some advice.

Right now I'm leaning toward the 35, and just need the push.

Thanks

DA 40mm has the advantage of size. But you don't have anything wide. And the DA 35mm is wider. It is also a Macro lens. My recommendation is to go with the DA 35mm F2.8. As you mentioned, 40mm is also too close to 50mm. That's another good reason to opt for the 35. They're both great lenses though. Can't go wrong with either one.

If 35 is wide enough, then that's the clear choice...otherwise DA21 is a good choice, but IQ is better with the 35.

I wouldn't get the DA40 as it is too close to 50.

My wife is a great lady and understands my addictions (LBA rears it's ugly head). I appreciate the feedback and edge keeps getting closer it looks like I'll order the 35. Adorama has it on backorder right now so I can think about it a little longer.

The DA21 is way out of my price range right now, and I already have a 28-70 which I love. I think my next big purchase after this will be a 10-17.

Consider yourself pushed. The 40 is nice, the 35/2 is one stop more useful, and is also nice.

How about upgrade to a A 50/1.4?

I just bought one of these, and it works so nicely with the metering in my DS that I barely have to take the flash out of the drawer any more. I'd been struggling with a Takumar 50/1.4 - great photos but a hassle to use. The Pentax-A is a pleasure.

Hi aesch,

looks like you are in my neck of the woods in CT. I have the 50 1.4 and love it, but was looking for something a little wider to go with it and my 70.

was the bonus big enough for FA31???
if not, go for 35. If 40 should be your widest lens... I don't know. It's a great lens, and do love it, but then I've never held 35. Many people love it and it gives you extra stop of speed.

good luck

Is there confusion here - I think some people feel you are refering to the DA35 2.8, but you say 35 f2.0 - which is the older (yet still good) FA35

I have the DA35 2.8 and DA70 2.8, love them both. The DA35 has the added advantage of being versatile with its macro capability... Thing is, I wouldn't discount the DA21

decisions decisions!

I like the idea of the extra speed the FA offers but it looks like it might be a moot point, everywhere I look they are out of stock, backorderd and on the B&H website it says discontinued. So unless I find a good used one I may be out of luck. I'm going to give Adorama a call today and see what the real story is.

The 31 just isn't going to happen, I cringed when I bought my 50-135, so thta one might cause sever pain, probably from when my wife hits me upside the head for spending that much

The 21 might be an option or I may just hold off and see what becomes avaialbe and save up more. I have noticed that price hikes have hit on some of the lenses. The price on the 70 just went up and the price on the 16-45 f/4.0 went up a hundred bucks, and I was thinking of that one because of the low end range.

35/2 hands down, they seem about equal IQ wise but it's a stop faster.

It's not looking for for the FA35

The FA35 is no longer listed on the Pentax site and when I spoke with Adorama today they said that the lens has been discontinued.

So now I have to think about what to do, I may just get the 16-45 to fill the low end voic.

It is a sad news that FA 35mm is discontinued I hoped to own one copy one day.

I notice that you have Sigma and Tammy in your collection. So are you looking in to the Sigma offerings? Sigma has 28mm, 30mm fast primes.
