Looking for 16-45mm and market price weirdness

Hello all,

I have decided to get a good copy of 16-45mm soon, checking the prices around, I found asking price for this lens is between 320-500 USD on ebay and at least 210 USD in here used. So , why in the world one should get this lens for 210 USD instead of a brand new one at adorama.com 269$ grey market and 289$ official import. I just don't get it.If an owner could convince me he has a superb copy of the lens I would give 200 at most, because there is a slight chance of not getting a good copy of this lens from Adorama right? By the way I am badly wondering the percentage of the good copy of this lens.

BTW if you know a great copy of the lens around please let me know.

Local and taxes and shipping.

You need the sum of the costs to include taxes and shipping. Add to that some prefer to play with a lens in person before buying and those outside the US face all sorts of problems usng anyone but B+H pretty much..

I have one, bought used on the forum, around $240 shipped (memory could be wrong). I didnt get a brand new because I wanted a daily-beater and didnt care about brand new.

I dont think this lens has the quality issues similar to the DA* 16-50 as to create a market for good-copies. Hecka, I havent heard about bad copies till your post.

And you have to remember too, a nice mint lens will hold it's value and will only be a bargain if the owner is desperate. You only save a bit on most cases... it is not like someone buys a 50-135 for $700 and few months letter is on sale for $350... it doesnt happen...

The new price of this lens has risen a lot, it used to be available new for $250 from Amazon. I guess that may explain the discrepancies in the used market. I've heard extremely few reports of bad copies of this lens.

I picked one up on the marketplace precisely because of the lack of quality control issues with this lens. I felt pretty confident that I wouldn't have any issues if I purchased a copy from a seller with good feedback.

SO What should I do?

Should I get one from Adorama or ebay seller with 100% positive but he sold only with 280 item yet? Guess Adorama will be safer right?

Best wishes.

I got a new one on Adorama recently for just under $300 (US) shipped. Seems to be excellent to me... and from the research I did, I didn't come across reports of bad copies, unlike the 16-50 DA*...

I've just checked Adorama price is up like 110$, what a luck, they couldn't wait two more days for me. .

BTW wassup in States? Is this Japanese price increase covering all US I read on the paper?

Bests.

If you search on ebay, there's a brand new one going for under $200 right now from a reputable U.S. dealer.
