Can I use a K-Mount macrolens on new Pentax AF body?

I have recently obtained a Pentax istDL AF body and wish to use my older Vivitar (non-AF) K-mount 55mm 1:2.8 macrolens on the new digital camera. Any hope of being able to make it function in a manual mode (or any mode) so i can avoid having to purchase a totally new macrolens? Many thanks! - Sookie

short answer is yes. If it is missing a "A" setting for the aperture then you will need to use stop-down metering. The lens should mount onto your camera without any trouble and work as it worked before on your manual SLR.

If the leans has an A seting it just works in all exposure modes (when set to A).

If the lens has no A setting you can use it in manual exposure mode.

You'll have to set an option in the custom function menu for "Allow Aperture Ring".

You measure the light and set the shutter speed by hitting the AE-L button.

You can leave the custom function set to "Allow Aperture Ring", no need to change it back when you use other lenses.
