Kobanar 50mm f1.8 ???

An Ebay buy I hope to learn more about. It came with an Albinar lens cap which means very little, has 6 aperature blades and a yelowish lens coating.

Here's an extra clue being the metal aperature stop lever.

And the aperature stops go to f16 if that can help me learn more

so is the lens any good?
Sharpness test at f8 says it can cut it there. Nothing beats a brick wall and a bit of signage.

Now the bokeh tests

All up I won't be complaining about this buy as it seems to perform not too well, especially as it was another $20 lens buy.

Other than those manufactured by Asahi for the Pentax, Japanese M42 50 - 55mm f 1.7/1.8 lenses seem to have common parentage. Mamiya, Ricoh, Chinon, Cosina and Yashinon all seem much alike. Your Kobanar resembles the Cosina variation most closely.

I started a rather long thread about them here.

An interesting read that thread, so perhaps a Cosina then?
The six aperature blades in action for the bokeh.

Most likely! It most resembles the lenses supplied with early Cosina made cameras such as the Argus/Cosina STL 1000. The later, Vivitar branded Cosinas, usually had the rubber focus grip.
