infinity focus probs w/ SMC Tak 35mm f2

Anyone (Sean?) ever had any problems with infinity focus on any old SMC Taks? It appears that my 35/2 won't reach infinity. Very easy to tell with my Katzeye split prism.

Are there any instructions on taking it apart and adjusting it?

No problems, especially with the SMC Taks. Are you using the correct converter? (It should not have a flange that sits outside the mount at all.)

There are ways to adjust infinity focus if it is truly off. I believe it is as simple as un-screwing three screws and turning until infinity is in focus. I can try to dig up the article I read if you need it.

Yup, that was my thought too. Your adapter should fit inside the lens mount on the camera, and should be flush with the front of the camera body. If it has a wide flange the lens sits away from the sensor an extra mm or so, making infinity focusing impossible.

Yea you gotta have the really thin looking converters. M42 has the same flange distance as the K Mount so you can't use the really fat ones because they add distance between the kmount plate and your M42 lens.

Get the one that 'sinks' into the Kmount.

The rest of my taks are fine and I'm using the Kalt adapter so it's flush with the body. I've hacked apart some old zeiss lenses that were DOA, but I've never worked on my 'nice' glass before and want to make sure I don't mess anything up. I must admit I find it very strange that it doesn't reach....or that I didn't notice before. Hmm.

Take a photo down a street with the Tak35 at inifinity. Then go on the computer and check. Maybe its the KatEye.

I've done a number of test shots comparing my 17, 35, 85 and 300...only the 35 gives me trouble. I'd be happy to post later when I get home tonight, but there's not much to show. The KatzEye is very nice, and working like a charm...

Thanks!

I have adjusted the focus on a Super Tak 28mm 3.5 to reach infinity on one of the non-pentax style adapters. It's rather easy, you just need some sort of friction tool to remove the trim ring and a few small screwdrivers. If you're careful you shouldn't have any problems, but any work is at your own risk. The 35 is probably very similar to the 50mm 1.4 Pentax 50mm f/1.4 strip-down instructions
