No problem shooting without a tripod, I always use my FA*200 that way.

I was wondering the same a few months ago. I decided that SDM and weather/dust-resistant construction was not very important for me and I found a good offer for a FA*200mm and bought it. Last week I suffered again from LBA and bought a FA*300mm

I ended up having both lenses for the price of the DA*300mm.

I dont know if that will be useful for you too...
