Buying Pentax gear in Perth, Australia

I'm a new user here - signed up a little over 2 months ago but have since been away from home for most of that time - so I'm not too sure where I should post this...

I live in Perth, Western Australia, and there seems to be a few of us on here
I'm looking at getting a Pentax 55-300mm lens to go with my K200D, but I'm not sure where I can buy such a lens from in Perth. There are lots of options online, but from what I have seen most camera or electronic stores here sell fairly generic items, and don't have a large range of lenses by themselves.

So my question to you fellow Perth people - where do you prefer to get your gear from? Are there some good shops here that I'm not aware of, or do you normally buy online.

Damn Brit

I moved it to a more appropriate place for you.

The forums actually have pretty good descriptions suggesting what to post. If you're not sure, you can always PM a moderator and we'd be happy to help. We'd rather you did that than post in the wrong place.

Enjoy the forum.

I've bought virtually everything online, nothing much on display around town.

Check on DP forum a thread about someone in Aus/NZ buying a DA40 lens. It contains a post from a CR Kennedy person pledging to match any authentic online price (US ones included I believe). Good luck.

For DA 55-300mm, I know Gerry Gibbs Camera House in Cannington stock them, and selling it for $649 the last time I checked. I think that price is not bad, compared to online price in US or Ebay after shipping. They have the Tamron 70-200 f2.8 for $1100, which is quite competitive too... ok.. I don't work for them just in case you are wondering.

I bought most of my lensese online, except for a few of them where I calculated the price/risk of getting overseas is not worth it.

Welcome to the forum!

Cameraland Camera House in Leederville stocks Pentax SLR bodies & the 'kit' lenses, some Pentax fit Sigma also. They can certainly order-in anything in stock from CRK.

Camera Electronic have an extensive Pentax range on display inc Limiteds and a good range of SH gear - the only store in Perth that I am aware of that stocks more than just the very basic range (and a vast array of all sorts of new & used stuff - some pretty exotic).

I've found Digital Camera Warehouse and B&H to be very good from the on-line perspective.

Hope this helps.

Good luck with your lens hunt in Perth. Sounds like there's a Pentax drought over there too!

BTW, if you do find more places, please drop a line into the Australian Pentax Suppliers (new and used) thread! I'll make sure its updated.

Thanks for moving the post, and I apologise for posting in the wrong place to start with. I try to avoid being like a new person like that, but ah, oops

Thanks for the replies
Gerry Gibbs camerahouse sounds pretty good. A bit out of my area, so I wouldn't normally come across it, but sounds like its worth the trip.

I have been to camera electronic and was impressed by their range and service - I bought the genuine Pentax M42 adaptor there - but last time I checked they weren't listing the 55-300mm.

Thanks for the info about the DP thread, I'll have a look when I can.
Even though I have mostly been 'lurking', I really like how helpful and informative this forum is, cheers!

Just to add one more store in Perth. I found the Midland Camera House stock quite a few pentax lenses as well. If you are down there, maybe worth a visit too.
