Will we see Pentax 80-200mm/1.4?

...well, I don't know if it's rumor or not but Sony is apparently planning to make one:

Exactly! I've already had a hard time hand holding my FA* 80-200/2.8
I can't imagine hand holding this 1.8 lens, I might lose my arm too

that's a 3D model not a photo, and from looking the the link it seems to be someones dream lens, not anything planned for production by Sony. and noyou wont see such a lens from Pentax.

this lens will most likely be unusable wide open at 200mm. personally I just think this is just a rumour Sony has sent out themselves just to raise interest in their flagging camera system.

I do own a 200mm f/1.8 For cannon EF mount and it's a superb prime, but a zoom in this focal length range and being one third of a stop faster than a prime just makes me laugh...why don't they make a 16-35mm f/1.0 lens while they are at it? and a 28-80 f/1.2?

lenses like those would be the size of a watermelon, and weigh twice as much. and their optical qualities would,in all probability; suck...you'd get better optical quality out of a lensbaby!

The things people come up with.

F1.4 zoom means plenty of glass. That kind of lens would dislocate any shoulder of world boxing champion...

I'd like to see them try...
And who would use such a lens at f/1.4?
The DOF would be thinner than a pixel at the long end...

Absolutely!!!
I've already seen it around. Easter Bunny was beating the crap out of Santa with that thing.

Although, I would be curious to see some one trying to shoot a wedding with that thing.

Oh come on now, you're exaggerating! The DOF would be a full 13mm at 3m distance to subject!

Sorry to say this, but I must admit I have it on pentax mount... and it is pretty cool but I wish it had more reach, like 300mm...:ugh:

Just kidding.

Haha I looked at the specs sheet on the link and its not all that bad as you might think. It's weight topped off at a little over a kilo and the filter size is 105mm. (My 500/6.3 mirror has a filter size of 95mm).

80-200/1.4 is a massive beast but a manageable one at that...just getting the DOF on the mark and good performance wide open...thats another story.

Hmm....Sony cameras have in-body stabilization, yet they're going to make a stabilized lens?
