FA 50mm 1.4 + 2x teleconverter question

hi guys, while no substitute for a macro lens or extension tubes (which are not easy to work with), can a teleconverter get close to macro magnifications? realistically speaking of course.

so assuming the FA 50mm 1.4 gets 1:6.7 magnification, the teleconverter makes it 100mm 2.8 with the same MFD (minimum focusing distance) as before, correct?

how is the magnification ratio affected? doubled i.e. 1:3.35? not sure how the math will work out.

I may be wrong (not the last time mind you), but I don't think the mag. ratio is proportional to the effective focal length. I think it is proportional to the square root of focal length. In this case, you end up with 1: 6.7/1.4 = 1:4.7.

square root of focal length? then why did you divide the original magnification ratio by the maximum aperture? not sure i get that.

1.4 in this case is not the max. aperture. It is the square root of 2. 100/50: you double the focal length.

Here's an interesting comparison of the D FA 100mm f2.8 macro against the Vivitar 2x Macro Focusing Teleconverter. That's a specialized TC designed for macro use with 50mm lenses.
