Anybody have any idea why the price on Sigma 70-200 2.8 has made two $50 leaps in the past 10 days? (The lens is about $799 on both Amaazon and B&H, up from $699 and $715 respectively) .

I assume it's the Yen , but the increase seems very large (and moving out of my "tax-return" range)..

I think there may be some profiteering going on as well. as the Yen in it's present state.

Over here they raised their prices 20-30% a couple of weeks ago

Odd??? In a recession? I have simply put my purchase of the lens on hold; I am quite sure that many others will do likewise. Many "want" but do not "need" the lens.

I noticed the 150-500mm prices went up, too.

I have noticed Pentax lens prices going up as well and there are a couple of threads running about huge price increases in Canada. If it is profiteering they screwed themselves out of some sales with me as I have found decent used deals on a couple of lenses I had planned to purchase new this year.

I agree. They may want more $ but they are not going to sell me a new lens at rising prices in this economy.

My only concern with used Sigma 70-200 2.8 is that there have been mechancal issues with the AF, so I'd like the warranty.
