LBA: Sigma 180mm Macro F3.5 (7 photos)

I've finally finished processing the first shots I took with my new-to-me Sigma 180mm macro. I actually got the lens as a christmas present to myself, but wasn't able to 'take it out for a spin' till late march. I finally got around to posting the images on my smugmug site this evening. When you work 50-60 hrs a week everything takes longer. I got the lens primarily for insect macros, but there were precious few insects abroad on a blustery day in March.
Initial impressions: Good ergonomics, but the lens is Sigma big. Needs a least a monopod for decent macros. It has a limiter switch which I consider necessary for a macro. The min focus range is about right, 18" (46cm), and it's got the Sigma sliding AF/MF clutch. I prefer Pentax's quick shift, but the clutch is better than nothing. It's got a removable tripod foot another necessity.
I haven't shot with the lens much but I like it. DoF, like all macros is pretty thin, it will take some practice on my part to get MF down, but that is typical for me and ALL lenses. This lens will take more practice than usual is my guess tho.
So here are a few macros and a few "regular" shots, I'll let the photos speak for themselves. These were all taken on the K10D.

f8 1/500

f9 1/125

f5.6 1/320

f9 1/160

Several of the sigma's I've owned have had flare problems. Not so this lens, I tried to get it to flare and this is the worst I could make it.
f3.5 (wide open) 1/500

Like many good macros, the lens has very good bokeh (IMHO)
f8! 1/500

another bokeh example with a busy background
f3.5 1/800

Other than it's size there is little to dislike about this lens.

edit: More examples can be found here:

Those are nice shots--thanks for posting. I've wanted longer reach in a Macro for some time now, and this is one of the options for Pentax, so this lens often comes with the waves of invading LBA. A friend of mine shoots it on her D200 and likes it a lot.

Thanks everybody for the nice comments. I do think I'll enjoy this lens a lot, especially after I've mastered it. But I'll also enjoy the process of mastering it.
