this was a good read for me as well....

having just gotten back from disney, i had 2 realizations. maybe more as i type, but 2 come to mind

1-the 16-45 rarely left my camera
2-if it had a little more reach, i probably would have left all but one or two other lenses home.

there were a few times...probably more than a few....where i wished i had just a teeny bit more reach....but could not move closer with the feet. i have dedicated super wide and fisheye lenses, so im not sweating losing the 1mm on the wide end. gaining 25 mm on the longer end would be hard to pass up.

so for me, the question is would you trade/retire your trusty 16-45 for a 17-70 in either flavor?

You can like the gear that you have, but you don't have to be a flaming obnoxious fanboy by putting others down... and if you didn't know, frank is no wet-behind-the-ears newbie. He is probably one of the most experienced Pentax users around, so it would be good to accord others due courtesy... and less of the so obvious bragging
If Ansel Adams posted--what I deemed as--out of focus photos, I'd still tell him they're out of focus. Argumentum ad verecundiam is not valid. I'm sorry the smilies didn't tip you off: I was joking around half the time. There is no need for juvenile hysterics and name calling. EDIT: This is my final response to your flames and flamebaits.

I have both the DA16-45mm and the DA17-70mm. There is little or no difference in IQ between the two lenses. When I bought the DA17-70mm I intended to sell my DA16-45mm. But I decided not to sell my DA16-45mm. The extra tele which the DA17-70mm has, comes in handy as a walk around lens. But I also miss the 16mm when I use the DA17-70mm. For landscape photography I prefer the DA16-45mm, but as a general walkaround lens my choice is the DA17-70mm.
